A Quick, Blissful Getaway
San Jose del CaboThe kids had a week-long school break in mid-November, so we headed down to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico for a short getaway. We found a hot deal for flight + 2bd/2bth condo on a property which had both owned and rented condo units, as well as a full hotel. This was the best of all worlds – our own kitchen and living space, plus the amenities of the hotel (like their two great restaurants and chic bar).
Days were filled with warm sun as we soaked up the relaxing vibes of this charming area in the Southern Baja. The heart of our vacation was definitely the excess of pool time we indulged in! The property had five pools, so whether we were practising our paddling (Kieran), diving for treasure (Grace), giving ‘sea-horse’ rides (Sean) or sipping on a refreshing margarita while working on the tan poolside (guess who…), every moment felt like heaven.
Sun, Sea, and Baby Tortugas
We spent one afternoon exploring old town San Jose, a decision we didn’t regret. The streets were lined with colorful buildings, vibrant souvenir markets, beautiful inner courtyards and Dia de los Muertos skeletons. We meandered through shops, stumbled upon the open-air city hall, and treated ourselves to some delicious grilled pulpo, scallop ceviche and shrimp tacos at Mi Cocina restaurant in the Casa Natalia Hotel.
The beach at Cabo is quite steep, with strong waves and a vicious rip tide, but we found a great little swim spot just down the beach from us. Nestled in a protected cove, the waves were gentle and so warm, making it an ideal spot for the kids to snorkel and play. Highlights of our beach time included digging holes, burying Kieran, splashing in the surf, enjoying the never-ending views of sea and sky… and seeing baby sea turtles (tortugas) hatch and make their way down to the waves! What a magical experience.
Sean and I are starting to think about what our days next year will look like, so we treated this trip as a primer. We tried to work out each day (Sean: jumping rope and body weight strength exercises; me: beach jogs, yoga, swimming and app-based workouts), eat clean, and limit drinks. We’ll get into a better rhythm when it’s not just a quick week away, I’m sure, but I feel like it was a good start.
Until next time, Cabo! Thanks for the memories,
Caley
Staying somewhere with a kitchen is my new “must” for travel!
Absolutely!
